Is This A Last Goodbye For David Cook?

So I’m sure by now most of you have wandered over to David Cook Official and listened to his newly released single – “The Last Goodbye” co-penned with pop writer Ryan Tedder. It’s playing on the main page continually.

I’m curious as to what everyone is thinking? Is it good to you or a piece of crappy sell out musical fodder?

I said “Love It,” but only because there wasn’t an option that fell between that and “Whatever.” I really like it but I don’t want to marry it or hump it or anything.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I llke it & it’s catchy so I’m sure will grow on me, but I’m looking fwd to better stuff on the rest of the album (hopefully).

    • Dani Says:

What?? I was laughing so hard at that “marry or hump it” line that I forgot the question!

  2. burt Says:

Same here. I like it, it’s catchy and I hope it serves it’s purpose but it’s not my favorites (not yet at least).

  3. Kim Says:

I didn’t like it very much. Wish he’d go harder rock.

I didn’t vote either not wanting to jinx him somehow. He is a likeable fellow. I hope that he is proud of his work and he gets airplay and is going in a direction that he wants to go in.

Personally I’m from the Cage the Elephant and Seether side of the Radion. This song aint it.

CTE IS AMAZING, BTW. Holy shit. It’s definitely not heavy, but it might shoe him in for the rest of the singles which are hopefully a bit heavier. I like it MILES better live, though.

Dumb question (I am a peripheral but still dedicated fan) but what does CTE stand for?

Personally I got into him because he was a regular guy with an “I don’t give a f*** attitude as in that Free song that he did. I still think that he should have taken a dive sometime after the top five. He is still my favorite Idol contestant – I just wish he could leave that show behind.

After seeing the Idol performance, I like it a lot more. Needs a lot of work though…seems like he forgot the words or couldn’t hear himself at first? DIdn’t look too happy with how it turned out. But good job to him, considering it’s the first time it’s been played live. Doesn’t matter how many times you rehearse, debuting a new single on live TV is always nerve-wracking.

I am LOLing at a few people who said there was no autotune used on the single though. Uh. Yeah. Sure. See: tonight’s performance.

I could excuse him by blaming all the phone interviews he’s done this week, or those sound people at Idol that seem to be the biggest fuck-ups on Earth (witness Jacob’s issues last night with the ear monitors). But Kelly sounded AMAZING last week, so hmmm…

Yeah, Wilco, I think EVERYONE uses autotune now. It’s practically an industry standard, like steroids and baseball.

The thing about recordings versus live performances is that in the studio you have endless takes that are endlessly tweaked so it’s not unusual to have the recording sound much much better than live.

Ear monitor issues shouldn’t have thrown Jacob as much as it did. He’s lucky to have them. It’s the first year Idol did that. Idol is such crap.

  6. Thorazine Says:

Cook sucked tonight on Idol. This Last Goodbye song is a turd, it just don’t fit his voice no matter how hard his fans try convincing themselves otherwise. I heard the Ryan Tedder touches loud and clear in this song tonight, and they don’t sound good on Cook. I was embarrassed for him up there.

    • Dani Says:

Wow I couldn’t have said it better. He sounded hoarse as well at least to me. You hit the nail on the head about the song not fitting his voice. I had a few people (non-tards) text me to remind me of the show, and once it was over I was like shit, they’re gonna think my musical taste suck after watching that live. He looked as nervous as he did on SNL when Light On was over back in 2008. It’s sad because of all the bands I’ve heard live he’s the only one who sounds even better than his record IMO.

I was busy in my garden and totally forgot he was going to be on Idol so I had to google it. Was glad I didn’t waste that last precious hour of sunlight watching Idol after seeing it. It had to be nerves. He knows there is a tremendous amount riding on him knocking it out of the ball park. Sophomore Idol winner albums don’t usually sell very well, unless you are Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson.
